Veteran Addiction and Mental Health Treatment at Faithland
Recovery, Empowerment, Counseling & Navigation for Veterans
Restoring Lives. Rebuilding Hope. Care that understands military experience, trauma, recovery, and the challenges of reintegration.
Veteran-Specific Treatment at Faithland Recovery Center
Many veterans carry experiences that are difficult for people who have not served to understand. Combat exposure, military sexual trauma, loss, chronic stress, traumatic brain injury, moral injury, pain, and the transition out of military life can affect mental health, substance use, relationships, employment, and housing.
Some veterans begin using alcohol or drugs to manage their thoughts, reduce anxiety, block nightmares, deal with pain, or feel emotionally numbed. What begins as a way to cope can gradually create additional problems at home, at work, or within the legal system.
Faithland Recovery Center developed RECON—Recovery, Empowerment, Counseling & Navigation as a veteran-specific clinical treatment track. RECON supports veterans during moments of crisis, instability, and transition from service or incarceration by providing a plan to move forward, including individualized treatment, practical navigation, and coordinated support.
The program combines evidence-based clinical care with an understanding of military culture, trauma, identity, and the realities of returning to civilian life.

What Is the RECON Program?
RECON is designed with a trauma-informed foundation for veterans who need support with addiction, trauma, mental health concerns, or social reintegration.
The program is built around four connected elements:
- Recovery: Treatment for substance use, trauma, and co-occurring mental health conditions
- Empowerment: Rebuilding confidence, choice, personal agency, and purpose
- Counseling: Individual, group, and family-focused clinical support
- Navigation: Help understanding and accessing healthcare, benefits, housing, legal resources, and community services
Navigation is not treated as an extra service. We understand that confusing systems, missed appointments, benefit interruptions, transportation problems, or difficulty coordinating providers can all interfere with recovery. The RECON program integrates navigation throughout treatment so veterans feel supported and understand what comes next and how to access each stage.
RECON was developed to align with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the VA Community Care Network. Veterans may enter the program through different referral pathways, including healthcare providers, the VA, community partners, Veterans Treatment Courts, or other legal channels.
Who Can RECON Support?
RECON is designed to support veterans with confirmed or suspected issues involving:
- Substance use disorders (SUD)
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Military sexual trauma (MST)
- Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Depression or anxiety
- Co-occurring substance use and psychiatric conditions
- Sleep difficulties or nightmares
- Anger, irritability, or emotional numbness
- Grief, survivor’s guilt, or moral injury
- Chronic pain
- Housing instability
- Legal or reintegration challenges
- Loss of identity, direction, or purpose after service
Seeking support can feel overwhelming. At Faithland, our comprehensive assessment enables the clinical team to understand what is happening, what risks are present, and which level of care may be appropriate for each veteran’s situation.
The Four Principles Behind RECON
Veteran-Centric Care
Military service shapes language, identity, relationships, and responses to stress. RECON incorporates awareness of military culture and service-related experiences throughout treatment.
Veterans are supported by professionals who understand that behaviors such as staying constantly alert, avoiding vulnerability, containing emotion, or pushing through pain may once have served an important purpose.
Treatment builds on the veteran’s strengths while helping them develop safer and more sustainable ways to integrate into civilian life.
Whole-Person Recovery
Recovery cannot always be separated into neat categories. A veteran may be managing PTSD, alcohol use, chronic pain, family conflict, housing concerns, and difficulty working at the same time.
RECON considers the full picture, including:
- Mental and emotional health
- Alcohol, drug, or prescription medication use
- Physical health and pain
- Somatic Integration (Grounding, breathwork, and movement therapy).
- Family and social relationships
- Housing and financial stability
- Vocational empowerment, skills building and education
- Legal concerns and reintegration after incarceration
- VA benefits (including post-justice-involved restoration) and healthcare access
- Personal values, culture, spirituality, and purpose
At Faithland, our goal is to help each veteran build a life that supports stability, connection, dignity, and lasting recovery.
Navigation as Part of Clinical Care
Veterans may be eligible for valuable services but have difficulty accessing them. Others may feel overwhelmed by referrals, benefit requirements, paperwork, transportation, or communication between different agencies.
RECON can help veterans:
- Understand treatment and referral options
- Connect with VA or community services
- Coordinate appointments and levels of care
- Navigate healthcare and benefit systems
- Address barriers involving housing or transportation
- Prepare for discharge and continuing care
- Stay engaged when the process becomes frustrating or confusing
This practical support can reduce gaps in care and help prevent veterans from being left to manage complicated systems alone.
Purpose-Driven Treatment
Military service often provides structure, responsibility, belonging, and a clear mission. When service ends, some veterans struggle with a loss of identity or purpose.
RECON helps veterans identify meaningful goals and measure progress in ways that reinforce autonomy and personal responsibility. Treatment often focuses on returning to work, repairing relationships, improving health, reconnecting with community, or developing a new sense of direction.
Recovery is not about returning to who you were before service, trauma, or loss. It is about building a meaningful life shaped by what you have endured, learned, and overcome.
Trauma-Informed, Evidence-Based Treatment
Every veteran receives an individualized treatment plan based on their needs, history, goals, safety, and level of clinical support required.
Treatment approaches available within the RECON model may include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT helps veterans identify how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. It may be used to address depression, anxiety, cravings, avoidance, and thinking patterns connected to shame or hopelessness.
Cognitive Processing Therapy
CPT is a structured trauma therapy that helps people examine beliefs that may have developed after traumatic experiences. It may be particularly relevant when guilt, blame, fear, or moral injury continues to affect daily life.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
DBT teaches practical skills for managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, improving relationships, and responding to difficult situations without returning to harmful coping behaviors.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing may help reduce distress associated with traumatic memories. It is used when clinically appropriate and when the veteran has sufficient stability and support for trauma processing.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing provides a respectful, non-confrontational way to explore ambivalence about treatment or change. It helps veterans identify their own reasons for recovery rather than being told what they should do.
Seeking Safety
Seeking Safety is a present-focused treatment approach developed for people experiencing both trauma and substance use concerns. It emphasizes coping skills, emotional safety, boundaries, and stabilization without requiring detailed discussion of traumatic events.
These approaches form part of a broader trauma-informed model rather than a standard treatment plan applied to every veteran.
Veteran-Focused Group Therapy
Isolation can make trauma and addiction more difficult to manage. Group treatment offers veterans an opportunity to connect with others who understand service, recovery, accountability, and the challenges of reintegration.
RECON group topics may include:
- Early stabilization and trust-building
- Trauma recovery and emotional reintegration
- Moral injury and spiritual repair
- Identity, purpose, and leadership
- Relapse prevention
- Post-traumatic growth
- Healthy communication and relationships
- Preparing for work, family, and community life
Groups are structured around the veteran’s stage of treatment and readiness. The goal is to create connection without forcing disclosure or comparison.

Family Integration and Reintegration Support
Military service, trauma, addiction, and repeated transitions can affect the whole family. Partners, children, parents, and caregivers can feel worried, exhausted, confused, or unsure how to support their loved one.
When appropriate and with the veteran’s consent, family services often cover:
- How trauma and addiction affect behavior
- Communication and conflict
- Trust and relational repair
- Healthy boundaries
- Support for spouses, children, and caregivers
- Expectations during and after treatment
- Reintegration into family life
- Relapse warning signs and recovery planning
Family involvement does not mean assigning blame. It is about providing a safer space to understand what has happened and develop healthier ways of moving forward together.

Levels of Care Available Through RECON
Veterans may need different levels of support depending on their symptoms, living environment, substance use, safety, and daily responsibilities.
RECON services may be provided across Faithland’s continuum of care, including:
- Residential treatment
- Partial hospitalization programming
- Intensive outpatient treatment
- Outpatient services
- Individual counseling
- Group therapy
- Psychiatric services
- Medication-assisted treatment when appropriate
- Case management
- Process groups
- Housing or supportive-living coordination
- Job-readiness and vocational support
Faithland’s Residential Treatment Program offers 24/7 structure in a small setting for veterans who need time away from triggers, greater stability, or more intensive clinical support. PHP and IOP are outpatient services that provide structured daytime treatment while allowing increasing independence and reintegration into community life.
Insurance and Veteran Coverage
Faithland accepts many major insurance plans, including coverage options that may be available to veterans and military families. Our team can verify your benefits, explain what services may be covered, and help you understand the next steps.
Faithland also works in partnership with the VA, VISN 22, TriWest, and other organisations committed to supporting those who have served.
RECON Support for Justice-Involved Veterans
Some veterans enter treatment while involved with Veterans Treatment Court, another legal program, or during the transition out of incarceration.
Faithland’s RECON–RESTART hybrid pathway connects veteran-specific clinical care with practical reentry support. Depending on individual needs and eligibility, assistance may include:
- Reconnecting with VA healthcare
- Exploring restoration of eligible benefits
- Accessing identification documents
- Housing navigation
- Employment preparation
- Legal and case-management coordination
- Transportation planning
- Substance use and mental health treatment
- Continued support following release
The aim is to reduce the gap between incarceration, treatment, and benefit restoration so veterans have a more supported path back into the community.
Continuing Care and Life After Treatment
Recovery continues after a veteran completes a particular level of care. Before discharge, the team helps create a plan that identifies ongoing treatment, practical support, warning signs, and next steps.
Continuing care may include:
- Step-down treatment through PHP, IOP, or outpatient care
- Individual or group therapy
- Medication management
- Relapse-prevention planning
- Alumni or peer support
- Family counseling
- VA and community-service coordination
- Vocational or educational goals
- Housing and benefit navigation
- Wellness routines and community connection
At Faithland, veterans leave treatment with a clear plan, trusted people to turn to, and continued support if challenges begin to return.
Our Mission for Veterans
You do not have to keep carrying this alone.
Faithland’s RECON Program reflects a lasting commitment to veterans carrying both visible and invisible wounds shaped by service, survival, and sacrifice.
We believe healing happens through more than clinical treatment alone. It also advances through trust, compassion, culture, community, and genuine human connection.
That commitment guides how we show up at every stage; from intake and outreach to treatment, appointments, reintegration, and continuing care. Our responsibility is not measured only by plans or paperwork, but by our presence, consistency, and willingness to stay engaged through the difficult times.
